Benny Nemer exhibition catalogue launch

The Spaniel's Tale Bookstore (1131 Wellington Street West, Ottawa)

October 18, 2023

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Celebrate the gorgeous new publication that spans an ocean and activates networks of queer kinship.

Join artist Benny Nemer for a casual gathering and celebration in honour of the publication of Benny Nemer: I Don’t Know Where Paradise Is. Make a toast, have a light bite, enjoy a new custom bouquet by Kat Kosk and connect with the local collaborators from Nemer’s fall 2020 solo exhibition at CUAG.

In the exhibition, Benny Nemer offered visitors encounters with figures, knowledge and feelings from the queer past, present and future through an hour-long randomized audio work. He created an arrangement comprising flowers and other objects that is inspired by a chapter from his audio work. He also invited members of the Ottawa-Gatineau Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer+ community to respond to the same chapter and then create a parallel arrangement in collaboration with local florist Kat Kosk.

This project is beautifully captured in the exhibition publication. Designed by Clément Wibaut and printed by Média Graphic (Rennes, France), it features texts by Heather Anderson, Ann Cvetkovich, Jennifer Evans, Benny Nemer and John Potvin. It will be available for purchase for $20.

Access The Spaniel’s Tale Bookstore has a a gender-neutral washroom. There is a small step up into the store. A ramp can be requested from the bookstore’s staff.
