Greg A. Hill is a multidisciplinary artist, a curator and a consultant. Currently based on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe in Chelsea, QC, he is a Kanyen’keháka member of the Six Nations of the Grand River through his father, and settler French through his mother. Hill’s output spans performance, video, installation, digital imaging, graphic design, and 3D print processes. Recent work explores expressions of relationship to Land through action and time spent with the Land, resulting in output that, collectively, creates a visual archive designed to communicate embodied experience towards building a deeper sense of awareness and reciprocity in relation with the Land. His work has been exhibited extensively across Canada as well as presentations of performance works and participation in group exhibitions in the USA and Europe. Past collaborative performances were also presented in the Czech Republic, Germany, and Hong Kong. In 2003, Hill was a recipient of the K.M. Hunter Foundation Visual Arts Award and an Indspire award in 2018. His work can be found in public and private collections in Canada and abroad. As a curator, Hill has nearly three decades of experience working within museums and galleries, most notably as the National Gallery of Canada’s Audain Senior Curator of Indigenous Art where he was dedicated to increasing the visibility of, and access to, Indigenous Art. Leading a team of curators, Hill greatly expanded the permanent collection to include major artworks by many of the most significant national and international Indigenous artists of our time. He also worked to establish a series of contemporary international Indigenous art exhibitions and produced several retrospective exhibitions and catalogues for senior Indigenous artists in Canada. As a consultant, recent clients include the Senate of Canada, Native Women’s Association of Canada, The Art Gallery of Algoma/Diamond-Schmitt Architects and the Alex Janvier Gallery.
