You are invited down the rabbit hole into a world of stories, memories and magic.
In 2023, Blind storyteller Kim Kilpatrick began visiting the palliative care unit of Bruyère Hospital in Ottawa and collected stories from residents, caregivers and staff. These stories, addressing the joy, fear and grief of lives lived, became the focus of a collaborative film between Kilpatrick and Ottawa-based artist Rachel Gray.
Their short film, Behind Every Door, has been painstakingly and lovingly painted and animated by Gray and is an ode to what happens when collaboration and art-making centre access and listening. We follow Kilpatrick as she and her guide dog Ginger weave together the stories and memories of those grappling with the complexity of end-of-life experiences.
Audio description is embedded into the design and content of the whole exhibition, rather than as an afterthought. Visitors will be able to explore this intersection of art and healthcare through many senses. In this way, Rabbit Holes invites us to listen closely to the connections made through life and the profound significance of stories.
