A suite for two pianos that puts ideas of reconciliation into action!
CUAG and G101 are pleased to co-present a free public performance of Timelines, a suite for two pianos, composed and performed by Beverley McKiver and Debra Grass. In Timelines, McKiver and Grass take us on a musical journey informed by the intersecting histories of Indigenous peoples and settlers on Turtle Island. McKiver and Grass embarked on this collaborative project to put the idea of reconciliation into action, and to together explore their diverse backgrounds, experiences and histories.
You are invited to join Beverley, Debra and two grand pianos on the gorgeous main stage of Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, where the performance is happening. It will be followed by a Q&A moderated by singer / songwriter Larissa Desrosiers, and light refreshments in Woodside Hall. Please note that as per Carleton University policy, masks must be worn at CDCC except when consuming food and drink
This event is free, and everyone is welcome to attend! It takes place on unceded, unsurrendered Algonquin territory.
Timelines is co-presented with G101 and is part of Gatherings, a series of in-person summer events organized by CUAG. There is more information about Timelines here.
Access at CDCC This event takes place on the main stage at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, a wheelchair-accessible venue with barrier-free washrooms. The Para Transpo drop-off entrance is at 290 Lisgar Street, where there is an accessible entrance with a ramp. There are two designated handicapped spots in the parking lot. Should you have any disability-related requirements, please email Fiona Wright and we will be happy to arrange.
Directions to CDCC The parking lot and main entrance of CDCC are located at 290 Lisgar Street. CDCC is accessible by public transit and has bicycle racks.
Parking at CDCC Paid visitor parking is available in the CDCC’s Lisgar Street lot, at the corner of Lisgar and O’Connor. The cost on weekday evenings after 6:00 p.m. is $5.00 (flat rate). Free street parking is available on nearby streets.
Participants
Beverley McKiver (Anishinaabe, Lac Seul First Nation) is an Ottawa-based pianist, composer and teacher who holds a certificate in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Ottawa. Originally from Northwestern Ontario, she has made her home in Ottawa for the last 31 years. Beverley’s compositions have been recognized by RCM and Conservatory Canada and performed at Parliament Hill, Native Earth Performing Arts, Harbourfront Centre and Banff Centre for the Arts.
Debra Grass is descended from one of the original United Empire Loyalist families who fled the American Revolution and settled in Upper Canada in 1783. She grew up in Belleville, studied music at Queen’s University, and holds an ARCT Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Piano Performance. She maintains a busy music teaching studio in Ottawa and composes original music for piano.
Larissa Desrosiers is a Queer Anishinaabekwe singer/songwriter and beadworker from Couchiching First Nation in Treaty #3, with Scottish and French ancestry. She is close to completing her Bachelor of Music degree with a Minor in Indigenous Studies at Carleton University. Her music is a blend of folk-inspired sounds, lived experiences and vast ranges of human emotion.
