Adeyemi Adegbesan billboard project
October 1 - October 31, 2024

Check out this billboard project by Adeyemi Adegbesan at 572 Bronson Avenue during October!
Adeyemi Adegbesan is a Toronto-based artist whose artwork is currently featured in A Dream of Return at CUAG. For the month of October, his artwork Keep On is presented on a billboard at 572 Bronson Avenue, just north of the Queensway.*
Depicting two Black women with intertwined braids, Keep On speaks to the interconnectedness of shared practices and experiences—such as braiding hair.
Literally and figuratively elevating Black women’s experiences, Adegbesan’s work builds community around images of recognition and care, in a prominent and unexpected public site.
With imagery inspired by hip-hop, pop culture, sci-fi and traditional masks such as those of the Benin Bronzes, this artwork weaves together Black futures, pasts and presents.
Keep On acknowledges culture that lives outside of museums; instead, it can be found in communities, homes, hair salons and other sites of belonging, emplacement and connection.
*The billboard is located on the north side of the building at 572 Bronson Ave (just north of the Queensway, between Arlington Street and Raymond Street).
