Sites of Memory: Legacies of the Japanese Canadian Internment

September 15, 2019 - January 26, 2020

This exhibition proposes art making as a way of addressing the impact and legacy of the Canadian government’s internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II.

Drawing on documentary records, artists Norman Takeuchi, Emma Nishimura and Cindy Mochizuki negotiate the complexity of reflecting on this traumatic history while articulating a delicate balance between remembering and forgetting.
